It's hot today and that reminds me of summer days in America. There, the popular ice-cold "Fresh Lemonade" is available at various events, markets and on the beaches. Lemons are often squeezed on site and mixed with sugar, water and ice cubes to make a really refreshing drink. On the beaches of New England, there are even delivery trucks with an integrated lemon bar. They offer drinks with various names: Homemade Lemonade, Fresh Lemonade and Pink Lemonade.
Even the native Americans drank lemonade. Their pink lemonade was made from red berries and maple syrup and refreshed immigrants in the colonies. Over time, the ingredients were replaced by cheaper ones such as sugar and coloring. In American supermarkets, there are now entire shelves full of different powdered drinks that are only mixed with water and ice cubes. Interestingly, pink lemonade contains natural (e.g. cherry juice) or artificial coloring (pink lemons are often shown on the packaging in advertisements, but their juice is only transparent).
If you're thirsty now, you can squeeze a few lemons, add ice cubes and water and season with white or brown sugar, perhaps honey or mint. Put it in a blender or just stir it. Whatever tastes good is allowed. And Marty Mummert also has a nice metal sign!
