Nielsen Massey was founded in Sterling, Illinois, in 1907. Since the mid-1910s, the family-owned company has specialized in the production of pure and natural vanilla products and flavors for food. In 2005, new flavors were introduced to the classic vanilla extracts in the range, including peppermint, orange, coffee, chocolate and almond. In 2006, Nielsen-Massey was the first US company to be certified for gluten-free food products and since 2013 it has also been the first company in the world to produce organic fair trade bourbon vanilla extract from Madagascar.
